Critics' Take
Critics praise the iPhone 17 Pro for its long battery life, its versatile triple 48MP cameras with a sharper 4x telephoto, and a vapor chamber that keeps the A19 Pro cooler under load. The aluminum unibody and wide camera plateau split opinion, and several reviewers note it is heavier than before. The Verge, Ars Technica, PCMag and Tech Advisor all say the cheaper iPhone 17, which shares its 120Hz screen, is the better buy for most people.
What critics loved
- Excellent battery life
- Versatile 48MP cameras with 4x and 8x telephoto
- Center Stage front camera
- Fast A19 Pro that runs cooler under load
Common gripes
- Divisive aluminum design and camera plateau
- Heavier than its predecessor
- Starting price rose $100 to $1,099
- The regular iPhone 17 is better value
- Modest upgrade over the iPhone 16 Pro
